Visits to retirement communities in San Diego county have been restricted due to the pandemic, making it difficult to celebrate holidays in the usual ways. But at La Costa Glen and the adjacent health center, GlenBrook, residents received a generous surprise in honor of Mother’s Day.

On Friday, May 8, Westerlay Orchids donated and delivered more than 1,500 orchids to 1,000 residents and 635 essential employees.

“The residents had no idea about the orchids,” said Keith Kasin, executive director at La Costa Glen. “They were utterly surprised.”

Westerlay has delivered over 60,000 orchids to local hospitals and essential workers across the nation and continues to spread the love with beautiful boxes of orchids.

Due to the coronavirus, La Costa Glen and GlenBrook residents have been unable to have visitors. This gift of orchids was a great way to lift the spirits of all, especially in celebration of Mother’s Day.
